All 911 calls originating within the Crowsnest Pass EMS service area are routed to the Foothills Regional EMS Communications Centre located in the town of Black Diamond approximately 150 km north of Blairmore. This call centre is staffed 24 hours a day with a minimum of 2 call takers, who are trained in the use of the Medical Priority Dispatch System. Crowsnest Pass EMS is a hospital based advanced life support service. The Crowsnest Pass EMS office and staff dormitories are located in the Crowsnest Pass Hospital. Being based out of the hospital has allowed staff of Crowsnest Pass EMS to develop close working relationships with hospital staff, as well as take part in training opportunities commonly missed by being out of the hospital. Crowsnest Pass EMS also maintains a shared hall, where the other 2 ambulances are kept when not required.

Crowsnest Pass EMS currently employees 3 full time Paramedics and 2 full time EMT-A's. We also maintain a casual staff pool of 2 Paramedics, 9 EMT-A's, and 3 EMR's. All staff employed by Crowsnest Pass EMS are members of the Alberta College of Paramedics, and maintain certifications that are above the minimum requirements needed to maintain this membership.

Finally, Crowsnest Pass EMS is an active member of the Alberta Ambulance Association, the Emergency Medical Service Chiefs of Canada, and the Chinook EMS Region Partnership. Mutual aid agreements have been developed with British Columbia Ambulance Service, Foothills Regional EMS, and Pincher Creek EMS, that allow staff to extend a helping hand when service levels are stretched to a maximum in these areas.

Bike Team

A recent addition Crowsnest Pass EMS, the bicycle response team provides Advanced Life Support care whenever there is a large gathering of people in a relatively small area. The bike team is staffed by 3 dedicated EMT-A's and a Paramedic, who are able to decrease response time by as much as 50% due to their increased mobility in dense areas. The major deployment in the Crowsnest Pass EMS service comes in July during "Thunder in the Valley", when the population of Crowsnest Pass increases 10 fold, to approximately 50 000 people.
